The University at Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning hosted “Advancing Resilient Design Through Criticism,” a symposium bringing together architects, landscape architects, planners, and researchers to examine how criticism can inform the design of more resilient communities. The September 23 event explored how design practice can respond to challenges including climate change, biodiversity loss, and human vulnerability.
The symposium was part of The Resilient Campus, an international design competition focused on reimagining the University at Buffalo’s South Campus through resilient design strategies. Presentations and discussions considered how design proposals can address environmental risks while contributing to the long-term resilience of communities and institutions.
MIT Urban Risk Lab Director Prof. Miho Mazereeuw participated in the symposium, contributing to the broader discussion on the role of design in preparing communities for environmental risks. The event provided an opportunity to bring together different perspectives on resilience and consider how critical dialogue can shape future design approaches.
