Recupera Chile Mediagua Conversion

 

In the February of 2010, Earthquake of 8.8 magnitude and tsunami hit the central coast of Chile affecting over a quarter of the countries population. This, sixth largest earthquake in recorded history resulted in widespread destruction and displacement. 

Mediagua project is a part of Recupera Chile. Located in Cobquecura, the epicenter of the 2010 earthquake and tsunami, this project converts the standard mediagua (prefabricated housing unit) into a local surf shop. Embodying the principles of earthquake safe construction practices.

Recupera Chile was created In collaboration with the University Harvard Kennedy School, Business School, Medical School, Graduate School of Education, School of Design, and the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS) Regional Office in Santiago.
